Every play in Total-Football's match engine is calculating data from many different player and team abilities, in the following table we will cover that each ability actually does during matches. 


Outfielder Abilities

TacklingTackling is a defensive ability. It is used mainly by players to stop the opponent dribbling attempts.Crucial for defending dribbles, very important when intercepting all kinds of passes, slightly imporant when defending rebounds.
MarkingMarking is a defensive ability. It is used mainly by players to stop the opponent from receiving the ball.Crucial for preventing the opponent from getting to rebounds. Very important for all marking scenarios such as corners, crosses and crossed freekicks, Very important in halting all kinds of the opponent's passes (Short pass, Long pass and Through ball)
Short PassesShort passes is a midfield ability, used by players to advance the play further down the pitch, to a close by player, without using a dribble.Crucial in short pass scenarios, slightly important in long pass scenarios.
Long PassesLong passes is a midfield ability, used by players to advance the play much further down the pitch, to a relatively far away player.Crucial in long pass and through ball scenarios.
CrossesCrosses is a midfield ability, used either on the flank or in a crossing set pieces situation such as a corner or a crossed freekickCrucial when crossing the ball from the flank during gameplay. Important while crossing the ball to the box through a freekick or a corner.
DribblingDribbling is the only ability that allows getting the ball further down the pitch without using a pass.Only crucial in dribbling scenarios.
TechniqueTechnique is a support ability that boosts the affect of other offensive abilities.Big boost to the quality of Dribbling. Meduim boost to Finishing. Small boost to all passing abilities and long shots.
ShootingShooting is an attacking ability which focuses mainly on shooting the ball from long range.Cruical for long shots. Important for shooting freekicks towards goal. Slightly important for finishing.
HeadingHeading is a mainly a attacking ability used when the attacking player gets the ball in the air, after he won an aerial matchup against a defender.Cruical for scoring an all crossing situations, could also be slightly important in some scenarions while defending a long ball.
FinishingFinishing is an attacking ability for all of the finishing situations inside the box.Crucial for all finshing scenarions inside the box. Slightly important when heading the ball towards goal from a freekick or a cross.
Free KicksFree Kicks is a set pieces ability used to determine the quality of the dead ball situation.Crucial for freekick scenarios when the player is shooting towards goal. Important when the player is crossing from a freekick or a corner.
PenaltiesPenalties is a set pieces ability used to determine the quality of a penalty.Crucial only when taking penalties.
AggressionAggression is a mentail ability which boosts the quality of certain defensive actions. High aggression might also get the player booked more often, especially if he isn't good in Tackling.Important when defending dribbles, rebounds, and all aerial matchup sitations such as corners and crossed freekicks, Slightly important when trying to intercept all passing types.
TeamworkTeamwork is a mental ability, it's important for the speed in which two players gain synergy. In game it helps in situations which requires team work.Important when defending against a crossed freekick or a corner. Slightly important when passing.
ComposureComposure is a mental ability that boosts a finishing attempt in certain scenarios.Important in Finishing situations. Important for penalty takers. Slightly important in all attacking heading situations.
CreativityCreativty is a mental ability that improves performance in certain situations where a creative action is required.Important for a Free Kick taker, Slightly important in passing situations. Very slight boost to long shots.
VisionVision is a skill that is mainly used by midfielders as it mainly boosts passing. It is also a main skill players use to get a rebound.Crucial for rebounds, Important for through passes. Slightly important fo short and long passes and crosses.
Def. PositioningDefensive positioning is a skill used by defenders to get into a better position for stoping an attacker.Crucial in intercepting all sorts of passes, Important for defending dribbles and clear rebounds. Slightly important for defending all crossing situations.
MovementMovement is a skill which is used by players receving a ball from a pass or a cross, in an attempt to get it in a better position.Important for receving all kind of passes. Slightly important for receving the ball in all crossing situations. Slightly important when attempting to reach a rebound first.
DecisionsDecisions is a skill that allows a player to decide better what is the correct move to make at a given time.Not currently implemented in the game engine but will be in the future.
JumpingJumping is a physical ability used by both defending and attacking players when an aerial matchup takes place.Crucial for all aerial matchups both when defending and attacking. Also, Slightly imporant when receving a long ball. High jumping attribute can also slightly improve the quality of the header.
SpeedSpeed is a physical ability that determines the pace in which the player can perform certain actions.Crucial for all players trying to reach a through ball or a rebound. Important on a dribbling scenario both for the attacking and the defending player
BalanceBalance is a physical skill the determins how quick the player can turn and stay on his feet. It is used by defenders to mainly halt the opponent's dribbling attempts.Crucial when defending against dribbles, Important when trying to intercept passes.
StrengthStrength is a physical ability used by both attackers and defenders when engaing in a physical matchup.Crucial for attackers when trying to receive a long ball. Important for both the attacker and the defender in all aerial matchup situations.
HeightDetermins how tall the player is. The taller the is, the more likely he is to win aerial duels. However, short players are more efficient while dribbling.Crucial for all aerial matchups. Slightly important when receving a long ball.
ExperienceDetermins how many matches the player played in during his career, having good experience can be useful in certain situations.Crucial when taking penalties. Important when finishing and when taking types of set pieces. Slightly important when passing.
MoraleRepresents the player's current mood. This affects the player's general performance on the pitch.Morale has an affect on all actions during the match.
ConditionRepresents The overall physical condition of the player, drops while playing in a match, the speed of this drop depands on the playe'rs stamina.Condition has an affect on all actions during the match.
SynergySynergy is an overall team attribute that represents how good is the relationship between players currently in the lineup. It has han affect on team plays (but not on individual efforts).Has an effect on all passing and crossing situations.


Goalkeeper Abilities

One On OneA goalkeeper ability for facing a one on one scenario against an attacking player.Crucial in 1v1 situations.
DivingDiving is the main ability goalkeepers use when facing shots.Crucial when facing all kind of shots and headers towards goal. Important when facing penalties.
AerialAerial is used by goalkeepers to move out of their goal and try to collect a cross before an attacker can reach it.Crucial in preventing all types of crosses from getting to their targets.
HandlingHandling is used by goalkeepers to parry balls in order to prevent rebounds and corners.Crucial in the prevention of rebounds and corners. Slightly important against crosses.
TeamworkTeamwork is a shared mental ability between goalkeeprs and outfielders, it's important for the speed in which two players gain synergy.In game goalkeepers with good teamwork would be more helpful for the defence in freekick crossing situations.
BraveryBravery is a mental ability which can enhance goalkeepers actions in certain situations.Important for saving 1v1 situations and preventing crosses.
Penalties TakingRepresents the goalkeepers ability of saving penalties.Crucial when facing penalties.
PositioningPositioning represents how well the goal keepers can position himself in all situations when a better position imporves his chance of preventing goals.Crucial against long shots. Important against all kinds of crosses and set pieces situations both for preventing crosses and saving the headers.
